Touting popular food brands and giving businesses in Jamaica an economic boost, the South Florida-based GroceryList Jamaica firm is taking online orders — from island residents and diaspora-dwellers — and promising “same-day grocery delivery or pickup from local stores island-wide.”

The new service aids shoppers in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Jamaica by utilizing 150 local Jamaican stores and bringing business opportunities to the firms, located in the country’s 14 parishes.

Meat and seafood, beverages, dairy, eggs, a bakery and baking goods, produce, canned foods, breakfast, oils, spices, sauces and soup mixes, beauty supplies, pharmacy items, and even pet products are available through the service, which operates like other delivery apps.

“The idea was birthed after struggling to find a way to get the best food to my mother in Jamaica while she was ill, instead of sending money,” explained GroceryList CEO and co-founder Rory Richards.

Oliver Mair, Jamaica’s Consul General to the Southern USA, recognizing the economic pluses for businesses in Jamaica, welcomed the year-old enterprise.

“We are so happy to support young entrepreneurial dreams, helping them become a reality,” said Mair. “We are also excited about the prospects of more Jamaican jobs as the demand for local goods and services continues to grow,” he added.

“By going to GroceryList, you can place your order and our network of shoppers will make the purchases and deliver them to the recipients,” said co-founder Jermain Morgan, Richard’s partner. He added that their digital service combines speed with excellent customer service.

Future company goals include “growth prospects” and philanthropic efforts addressing “food security and poverty alleviation throughout Jamaica.”
